Rogaland Kunstsenter (RKS) is taking part in NADA Miami 2021 during Miami Art Week, as a result of its collaboration with Bas Fisher Invitational (BFI) in Miami. NADA Miami features more than 170 exhibitors.
RKS and BFI jointly presented works by Loni Johnson, misael soto, Houston Cypress, Siri Borge, Hanan Benammar and Máret Ánne Sara. These six artists are currently participating in "Heat Exchange," an artist exchange programme offered between the two organisations. This new initiative brought three Norwegian artists to Miami in July 2021, made possible through a collaboration with The Fountainhead Residency. Three artists from Miami will travel to Norway in May 2022 to examine the two countries' different approaches to cultural funding and municipal-artist partnerships. The artists involved live "hybrid lives" as activists, politicians, curators and in other socio-politically engaged roles.
Stavanger-based artist Siri Borge presented the performance "Requiem for a Reindeer." Using a modern theremin and a loop pedal, she creates a soundscape that builds gradually and ends abruptly. With musical elements inspired by the No Wave genre, the performance considers how animals are mutating due to human impact on nature — radioactive waste, chemicals and toxins that alter animal behaviour and appearance.
