Rogaland Kunstsenter is delighted to invite you to the members' exhibition "Vi ses!". This is a group exhibition curated by Elizabeth Croft, featuring 77 visual artists and craft artists from the region (see list below).
As the final exhibition in the Art Nouveau building at Nytorget before the upcoming renovation period, Vi Ses! is a tribute to how the building has held artistic activity for decades, and how artists have engaged with and unfolded themselves in this distinctive place.
This is a sales exhibition where the public has the opportunity to both experience and buy contemporary art of high artistic quality.

About the exhibition
Vi ses! is the last members' exhibition at the kunstsenter in its current form. It marks a moment of transition for Rogaland Kunstsenter – a farewell to the Art Nouveau building as we know it today, and an opening towards a new phase. It therefore felt fitting to invite artists to submit works that, in different ways, engage with the art centre and its history, as well as with the development of the art field during the time the kunstsenter has existed.
There are several works in the exhibition that were produced in the building, either in the print workshop that used to be on the ground floor, or in the gallery as site-specific works. Other works take artists' working conditions and their sense of community as a direct or indirect theme. Despite improvements in working conditions, it is still necessary for many artists to hold down a job – for example as a waiter – and even so they cannot afford to finish or produce all the artworks they would wish to.
The exhibition is built on democratic principles – every member of Norske Billedkunstnere Rogaland (NBK-R) and Norske Kunsthåndverkere Vest-Norge, Rogaland (NKVN-R) who applied to the exhibition was guaranteed to have at least one work included. The exhibition therefore holds a diversity of expressions and formats, and is a snapshot of the region's artists and their production.
Since this is our last chance to make use of more spaces in the building, I have tried to fill every corner with art – as a final hurrah to us as artists and to this beautiful Art Nouveau building, with all its charming details. There should be art in the stairwell, in the corridors, in "Studio 17", in the café, and of course in the gallery – even in the safe. Art should be breathed into every corner of the building and remain there until the building exhales and all its contents are emptied out. With that exhalation, the building will say: "See you later. Talk soon. Vi ses!"
